I believe that you will find me to be a grounded person who focuses on your needs by listening to you and my hands. You can expect professionalism, safety and a welcoming smile. I am all-inclusive in selecting my clientele, assuring everyone the respect they deserve and access to my very best work.
Constructive criticism is welcome after a session, when honestly given and objectively worded. Good feedback feeds my perfectionist tendencies and yields a better massage for you and everyone else who sees me for their massage needs. You can always be open with what you expect and what you received from me.
My background is in computers, which I had been in love with for over 30 years. When my best friend pointed out that I would be stupid (not foolish or remiss, but stupid) to pass up an opportunity to put my hands to work, I felt compelled to find out how well I might succeed. I have never looked back. My hands are the wings I needed to catch the beautiful, warm winds of healing, unlocking the body's natural desire to right itself.
Being a transplant from San José, CA, the pace of life is a little different and I'm just now settling into it after a year. I have to say that I adore the rain and the clouds, but it's the friendly, intelligent people that I've been most impressed with. San José wasn't cold at all, but it was a big enough city that people looked at you funny or outright ignored you if you said, "hello" as you passed by. I'm so happy that I haven't run into a lot of that here.
Any massage session allows me a break from everyday life; a shared experience where troubles find no purchase and purposeful movements help them slip away more easily. In short, I lose myself to the experience and you get my entire attention. For this reason, my eyes are often closed to input as my mind visualizes the work needed in the layers of muscle and connective tissue. I love my career!
The bulk of my success is owed to the supportive, professional, fun staff of National Holistic Institute in San Jose. There, I entered a group comprised of people from all over the human spectrum, which proved to be a boon in learning how to meet the needs of just about any client. Though I am no longer in standard classes, I am still a part of NHI and return there for cutting-edge information and seminars. Group 30 and everyone else at NHI is like a family that holds each other aloft. My mentor, Kristine Ten Brink, is particularly inspiring, since I have the utmost respect for those who practice what they preach - especially when done with the students' best interests in the forefront and well-timed jokes to keep your attention focused. I highly recommend that your career in massage start there if you are considering it.
I'd like to add that much of what I learned about touch came from my cat, Theo. That cat was the meanest and most murcurial little ball of scowling fury I've ever met and I was crazy enough to love him. I wanted to pet him and calm his troubled spirit (my younger siblings were terrible to him). To achieve this goal, I studied at the School of the Angry Paw with sensei Orange Lightning. He wouldn't settle for a good touch; only the right touch. Thank you for the hard lessons, Theodorakis and rest in peace.
